Female faith leaders preach #SilenceIsNotSpiritual

In December 2017, more than 140 leading evangelical women called on churches to go public with opposition to gender-based violence and harassment. Just like the viral #MeToo movement, influential evangelical women like Beth Moore and Lisa Sharon Harper used social media and the hashtag #SilenceIsNotSpiritual to draw attention to the cause. The group of women issued a statement that read, in part:

"There is no institution with greater capacity to create protected spaces for healing and restoration for survivors, as well as confession, repentance and rehabilitation for perpetrators..."

So why have churches been so quiet about harassment and violence? MPR News host Kerri Miller spoke with Harper, who's also a speaker, activist, and author of "The Very Good Gospel." They were joined by Rachel Held Evans, author of "A Year of Biblical Womanhood."
