Residents near Minneapolis-St. Paul airport concerned over flight path changes
A proposed plan to concentrate airplanes to fewer paths is garnering opposition among some residents.
The changes would be part of a Federal Aviation Administration plan to update U.S. airports to increase safety and save fuel, reports MPR News' Jon Collins. Residents living under the routes in neighborhoods around the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport say the concentration of air traffic would add too much noise and lower property values:
Steve Kittleson, a member of MSP Fair Skies Coalition, which formed to oppose the new flight plans, said he wants more hard data on how the flight path changes might impact residents' lives.
"I refer to it as a freeway in the sky," Kittleson said. "We do have our fair share of air traffic, and what we're really interested in retaining is the quality of life that we have right now."
