Duluth gets $285K to help idled workers
The city of Duluth has received a state grant of $285,000 to help former employees of the Georgia Pacific hardboard plant that closed this year.
A Duluth News Tribune report says the money will help the city provide additional training to as many as 80 skilled workers who are too young to retire.
The plant closure left 141 workers unemployed.
The grant is from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. It runs through the end of next year with the possibility of an extension
