Work update on 2 Twin Cities lock and dams

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says commercial and recreational boaters will be affected by construction work on two lock and dams in the Twin Cities area.

The Corps says the Lower St. Anthony Falls lock and dam will be closed to all navigation Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The contractor building the hydropower facility on the lock and dam site in Minneapolis will be pumping concrete during that time.

At Lock and Dam 3 north of Red Wing, the Corps contractor will shut down work for the Fourth of July holiday weekend at 3:30 p.m. Friday, then resume work Tuesday morning.

Corps officials remind boaters to use caution near Lock and Dam 3. Recent rains have also increased the water flows in the Lock and Dam 3 area, bringing loose trees and driftwood into the Mississippi River.
