Minnesota won't host 2023 World's Fair

Minnesota will not host the 2023 World's Fair after international voting on a host site Wednesday.

Minnesota was one of three finalists for the Expo 2023 event. Argentina was selected as the host country, with Poland coming in second place. The event will be in Buenos Aires.

Minnesota organizers had proposed the theme "Healthy People, Healthy Planet" for the event, which would have run from May 13 through Aug. 13 in Bloomington at a site east of the Mall of America.

It would have been the first World's Fair hosted in the U.S. in almost 40 years. Organizers had projected as many as 12 million visitors.
