Online job ads drop in November

An important measure of labor market demand took a dive in Minnesota in November.

Online job postings in Minnesota dropped off by 6,000 in November, continuing a downward trend since June. Labor demand also dropped off nationally, according to the Conference Board, a New York-based research firm.

On the bright side, the Twin Cities had one of the most favorable supply/demand rates for jobs, with about 1.5 unemployed people for every posted position.

Nationally, there were about 3.5 unemployed for every online vacancy in November.

The Conference Board says the lackluster labor market is hitting a wide range of occupations, including management and business and finance.

Healthcare practitioners and technical occupations posted the most robust growth in online job vacancies in November nationally. The number of job postings in that category outnumbered job-seekers by nearly three to one.
