Jonathan Biss and Beethoven's 32 sonatas

Learning to Listen: Jonathan Biss and Beethoven's 32 sonatas

The 32 Piano Sonatas Ludwig van Beethoven wrote have captured the attention of pianists and listeners around the world for more than 200 years.

Dozens of pianists have recorded the complete set, including Alfred Brendel, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Daniel Barenboim, Richard Goode, Wilhelm Kempff and Andras Schiff.

Pianist Jonathan Biss plans to record all 32 as well.

He's halfway through the nine-year recording project, which will result in nine CDs.

His newest release includes the towering Appassionata, Piano Sonata No. 23. It was featured on New Classical Tracks the week of May 18, 2015.

You can learn more about Biss's free online course called "Exploring Beethoven's Piano Sonatas" here.
