Morning Glories: Music inspired by literature

Every weekday morning at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a standout work based on the theme for the week. We call them Morning Glories.

This weekend the Minnesota Opera presents the world premiere of The Shining by Paul Moravec, based on Stephen King's novel. So many opera composers have been inspired by literature, and we will hear several inspired compositions this week for Morning Glories.

Monday

Bedrich Smetana: The Kiss

Tuesday

Erich Korngold: Die tote Stadt

Wednesday

Heinrich Marschner: Der Vampyr

Thursday

Giacomo Puccini : La boheme

Friday

Jules Massenet: Thaïs
