Are you a middle school oboe student wanting to know how to make your own reed? Maybe you're first-chair horn in the high school band and wondering about a career in music? Or perhaps recently, as a grownup, you've been making some pretty good sounds on your old student flute but want some tips on how to audition for a community orchestra.
Well, the Woodwind and Piano Day 2017 at Bemidji State is just for you!
It's an all-day affair of performances, workshops and instrument-specific classes on Saturday, Oct. 21. You can learn about tone production, extended techniques, reed-making and care, and develop your musicianship with the help of esteemed BSU woodwind and piano faculty.
And the best part? It's free!
Just last week, a whole van-load of faculty musicians headed down to the Twin Cities to make music in the Maud Moon Weyerhaeuser Studio: department chair and pianist, Stephen Carlson; flutist, Lauren McNee; oboist, Heather Guidry; clarinetist, Lisa Perry; bassoonist Miriam Webber; and saxophonist, Benjamin Cold. They were accompanied by guest artists: French hornist, Jacqueline Schaffer and pianist Seulgee Lee Nelson to play works by Ludwig van Beethoven and Jennifer Higdon, and a piece by Astor Piazzolla — arranged by Classical MPR host, Alison Young.
