Mentoring is a way for professionals to maintain networks, but it's also a way for people to exchange ideas, cultures and insights. More and more Americans over the age of 50 are dedicating their time and talent to mentoring young people.

They're also interested in being mentored as a way to continue their connection to community and fight the fear of old age. And the benefits — social and emotional — apply to both mentors and mentees.

MPR News host Kerri Miller spoke with founder and CEO of Encore.org, a San Francisco-based organization leading efforts in this area, Marc Freedman and with MPR's senior economics contributor Chris Farrell about the mushrooming mentoring movement.
