Alex Williams' first album debuts Friday

Alex Williams' debut album "Better Than Myself" comes out Friday.

Williams, 26, says his father was an '80s hair band fan. It was his grandfather who introduced him to the outlaw country music that became his musical inspiration.

Willie Nelson's longtime harmonica player, Mickey Raphael, plays on the album, and Williams has a tattoo of Waylon Jennings' winged "W" logo on his forearm.

You can stream his album now on NPR's First Listen.

Williams will play at the Pourhouse in Minneapolis on Sept. 1.
