Mpls. Veterans Home enters final stage of expansion
The Minneapolis Veterans Home is getting a new 100-bed skilled care nursing facility on its campus, after securing $38 million in federal funds.
Governor Mark Dayton announced the funding Thursday. The state already has kicked in nearly $19 million to the final phase of the redevelopment project.
The redevelopment, which started in 2010, replaces existing facilities on the 128-year-old campus. The additions include a building with 100 private rooms, as well as exercise and therapy space now under construction.
The final phase will begin as soon as possible, says Veterans Affairs Commissioner Larry Shellito.
"We've been on a journey, a three phase journey," Shellito said. "Phase one of that journey has been complete and occupied. Phase two is currently being built and then phase three is all set to go."
Shellito says the project should take just over a year to finish.
