300 jobs lost as SW Minnesota beef plant closes
A beef processing plant in southwest Minnesota will close for good on Dec. 11 after being idle since last month.
The PM Beef plant in Windom, which employs about 300 people, suspended operations at the end of September. PM Beef says it's looking to sell the plant, and hopes to find a buyer that will resume operations in Windom.
"Closing the facility was a very difficult, but necessary decision," said President Lisa Hernandez. "And it was based on years of deteriorating industry conditions, which includes the rising cattle prices, and limited cattle supply."
Last month, Cargill decided to sell a beef plant that's been idle for two years.
