Art Hounds: A landscape exhibit you could get lost in

Jazz musician and writer Peter Goggin was impressed by the exhibition of landscape paintings currently on display at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Goggin says the paintings really cover the gamut of artistic styles and movements. He was particularly struck by Gustav Klimt's painting of a birch forest, in which the viewer is able to get lost in the detailed brush strokes. "Seeing Nature" runs through Sept. 18.

Radio DJ Jessica Paxton says she is super-pumped for the return of Mark Olson to the Twin Cities this weekend. Olson, formerly of The Jayhawks, is performing at The Warming House in Minneapolis on Aug. 25, and at the State Fair Aug. 27-28. Paxton thinks Olson is a national musical treasure and says his wife and musical collaborator, Ingunn Ringvold, provides perfect harmonies to his distinctive voice.

Arts organizer Jacinta Zens recommends you check out 33 1/3 Revolutionaries (aka DJ Buck Nastee and DJ Morplay), two exceptionally talented "turntablists" who, in an era of digital DJs, continue to scratch vinyl. They're joined by Diane Miller, aka D Mills, who is equally adept at both beatboxing and the banjo. They perform Saturday at the Junkyard Brewery in Moorhead.
