Wisconsin pet food company recalls products over Listeria
Milwaukee-based pet food seller Stella & Chewy's is recalling some of its dog and cat food products after a routine test in a sample was contaminated with Listeria.
Listeria was found in one sample of chicken freeze-dried dinner patties for dogs but Stella & Chewy's voluntarily recalled 20 of its chicken, turkey, beef and goose products to insure they have not been affected by the contaminated sample.
The company said there haven't been any reported illnesses in humans or pets from the contaminated products.
Listeria can cause serious illness or even death in children, pregnant women, the frail and elderly. It creates flu-like symptoms in humans such as high fever, but rarely affects pets.
Pet food stores across Minnesota sell Stella & Chewy's, including Chuck & Don's pet food and supplies. Customers can return recalled products at the store of purchase for a refund.
The company has released a complete list of recalled products on its website as well as a detailed recall annoucement.
