Gun found in day care crib was loaded

A St. Paul day care provider won't be able to operate while police investigators try to find out how a loaded gun wound up under the mattress of a baby crib.

Police found the weapon along with marijuana and drug paraphernalia last Friday while executing a search warrant at the home day care north of downtown St. Paul. Three people were arrested, including the day care provider who lives at the home.

Four children were present when officers arrived. Police say the crib was in the bedroom of the day care provider and was used by one of her own children, who wasn't in the crib when the gun was found.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press says Ramsey County asked the state to immediately suspend the day care license.
