Minnesota WWII vet to receive French honor
A World War II veteran from Minnesota is about to receive the highest decoration France can present to a foreign citizen.
U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar on Sunday will present the Knight of the Legion of Honor Medal to veteran Jim Carroll of Bloomington. Carroll, a private 1st class, is being honored for his service in western Europe during World War II.
As a soldier in the 101st Airborne Division, Carroll jumped into Normandy and Holland as a paratrooper and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
The Legion of Honor was created by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802. Carroll also has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
