Multiple early morning shootings in Mpls.

Minneapolis police are investigating three shootings that wounded eight people early Sunday morning. No one is in custody.

Authorities said officers patrolling near the central library downtown heard multiple gunshots just after 2 a.m. and saw a crowd fleeing the area.

Department spokesman John Elder said police found two males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both were hospitalized — one with "very serious" injuries. Less than an hour later, officers heard more gunfire three blocks away in the warehouse district. There they found a man and a woman who'd been shot.

Police soon learned a third victim from that incident was at North Memorial Medical Center. All three had suffered non-life-threatening injuries. In a third incident, Elder said officers were at North Memorial working an unrelated case when two cars pulled in with three victims of a separate shooting on the north side that also happened around bar closing time.
