Rochester Art Center chief takes Florida job

The head of the Rochester Art Center is leaving the museum to take a job in Orlando, Fla.

Shannon Fitzgerald, who led the museum for three years, was instrumental in adding programming to the museum and making artwork, especially contemporary art, accessible, said Rochester Art Center Board President Larry Guse.

"She just had a way of talking about art with an individual and helping them see it in their own eyes without feeling intimidated or that feeling contemporary art was not accessible," he added. "She very much put you at ease."

Guse says the art center board has a finalized list of candidates and expects to hire Fitzgerald's replacement next month.
