This week Art Hounds lead us to a five-hour dance performance, the funniest stand-up comedy and an exploration of the life and music of Woody Guthrie.

Theater artist Ben Kreilkamp recommends you check out Morgan Thorson's dance piece "Still Life" at the Weisman Art Museum. The performance lasts five hours, and is a meditation on both time and human endurance. Kreilkamp compares the experience to watching water flowing in a stream, but here you're watching people. The performance is free, and audiences can come and go as they please. Performances start at noon and run Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays through September 13.

Visual artist Florence Brammer is a big fan of stand-up comedy, and while Acme Comedy Co in Minneapolis regularly brings in touring acts, she's a particular fan of the "Funniest Person in the Twin Cities" contest. In the tournament, local stand-up amateurs give comedy their best shot for three minutes. On Sept. 8 the five finalists will compete for the title.

Gallery director Robbie Brokken went to Commonweal Theatre's production of "Woody Guthrie's American Song," and says while she's not usually a fan of musical theater, this show was a hit. Brokken says not only did she learn about Guthrie's life and passions, she also ended up clapping and stomping along to such folk greats as "This Land is Your Land" and "Bound for Glory." Performances run through September 28.
