Candied bacon sliders and Spam sushi are among the highlights of more than 30 new foods at the Minnesota State Fair this year.

The food critics ate their way through the old and new offerings during the fair's first day, and we brought a few of them together to survey the menu. Pioneer Press food critic Jess Fleming, Mecca Bos from City Pages and the Heavy Table's James Norton talked to MPR News reporter Tim Nelson about the food at the fair.
