The Matt Cassel era is officially over.

The Minnesota Vikings said Wednesday the team has a deal to trade the backup quarterback and one-time starter to the Buffalo Bills.

Cassel came to the Vikings in 2013. He came out of training camp last year as the team's starting quarterback but suffered a season-ending foot injury in the season's third week. He returned eventually as the backup to Teddy Bridgewater.

Cassel will go to the Bills for an as-yet undisclosed draft pick. The deal will be finalized next week, the Vikings said.
