Parts of I-35E in St. Paul, Hwy. 100 in west metro closing Friday

Portions of two major highways are closing this weekend, one in St. Paul and the other in the western suburbs.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is closing northbound Interstate 35E between downtown St. Paul and Cayuga Street, about a mile-long stretch of freeway, at 9 p.m. Friday. The southbound lanes will remain open.

The Transportation Department said drivers should use Interstate 694 to the east or Highway 280 to the west to get to the northern St. Paul suburbs.

On the west side of the Twin Cities, the Transportation Department is closing about six miles of Highway 100 between Interstate 394 and Highway 62 in Edina, St. Louis Park and Golden Valley. The road will be closed in both directions starting at 10 p.m. Friday.

Drivers will be directed to a detour to the west on U.S. 169. Crews are widening Highway 100 and replacing bridges in the area.

Both I-35E and Highway 100 are scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, although northbound Highway 100 is tentatively scheduled to close again next weekend.
