Rabia Chaudry of 'Serial' is writing a book on Adnan Syed's case

Last year, the podcast "Serial" turned Adnan Syed and Hae Min Lee into household names.

Syed was convicted in 1999 of murdering Lee, his former girlfriend. Both were seniors at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore when Lee was killed. "Serial" host Sarah Koenig retraced the case against Syed, and turned hundreds of thousands of listeners into amateur sleuths as they followed along.

Rabia Chaudry, a lawyer and family friend of Syed's, originally brought the case to Koenig's attention. Now, Chaudry is writing a book about it, according to Entertainment Weekly. "Adnan's Story: Murder, Justice and the Case That Captivated a Nation" will be released by St. Martin's Press next September.

This isn't the first Chaudry has had to say about the case in the aftermath of "Serial." She launched her own podcast, "Undisclosed," which continued to examine the case. She also helped raise funds online for Syed's legal defense.

Speaking about the forthcoming book, Chaudry told the Baltimore Sun that "Adnan's Story" will include details about the investigation that have not yet aired on "Undisclosed."

By next fall, the story could have a new chapter: In February, the Maryland Court of Special Appeals granted Syed's request for an appeal. Earlier this month, it was announced that Syed would receive a hearing during which his lawyers could present a possible alibi.
