Despite the lack of snow covering the hills of Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis, neighborhood residents and others gathered Saturday afternoon for the annual Art Sled Rally, now in its eighth year, to watch art head downhill.

Participants built and decorated elaborate cardboard sleds for one or more riders. Among the sleds were a double-decker Lego couch, Chinese terracotta warriors, a snow snake, a narwhal and a giant birthday cake. Participants took turns sledding down the hill while organizers announced each sled for the cheering spectators who watched from the hillside. Most sleds made it to the bottom, but every so often, one fell apart along the way or crashed into the hay bales along the course.
