Police: Man drove Zamboni while drunk at high school game

Police say a Fargo man was drunk while operating a Zamboni Friday night at a high school hockey game.

Clay Whittlesey of the Fargo Park District says spectators alerted officials at the South Sports Arena that the Zamboni operator was driving into the boards and appeared impaired. He was smoothing the ice for the game between the Davies High School and Williston High School girls' teams.

A Fargo Public Schools employee called the police. The man was arrested for DUI and booked into the Cass County Jail.

He was not in custody as of Saturday afternoon.

Jim Larson of the Fargo Park District said another Zamboni driver was called but the coaches decided to play on the rough ice instead.
