Abandoned pool where 2 boys rescued to be demolished

The owner of a St. Paul apartment complex says he's demolishing an abandoned pool where two boys had to be rescued by firefighters.

A 7-year-old boy was critically hurt and remains at a hospital after nearly drowning in the pool on May 25. Authorities say his 10-year-old brother tried to save him from the pool filled with 6 feet of dirty water. He was treated and released from a hospital.

Property owner Samir Abumayyaleh says he plans to fill in the pool and put up a playground.

The city issued a correction notice for the pool last week under its nuisance ordinance, saying the owner must drain standing water and make an effort to keep people from getting in the pool.
