Hopkins police: reward offered in hit and run that killed woman, 75

Police say a hit and run on Main Street on Wednesday has resulted in the death of a 75-year-old Hopkins woman. Authorities are asking for the public's help in finding the driver.

Dolores Stafford was hit at about 6 a.m. The victim told officers who found her that she was hit by a dark colored SUV and was crossing with the light on her way to a nearby bus stop and to downtown Minneapolis, Hopkins police spokesperson Sgt. Mike Glassberg said. The vehicle was gone when police arrived.

"We're trying to find witnesses or anybody that was in the area just prior to or just after the crash," Glassberg said. "We have been reviewing surveillance tape from area business and Metro Transit to determine if we can find this vehicle."

Stafford was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center and died Thursday.

The vehicle that struck her may have suffered damage in the crash that killed Stafford, possibly including windshield damage, Glassberg said.

The Hopkins Police Crime Fund and Minnesota Crime Stoppers are offering a total $6,000 reward for information that leads to the resolution of the case.

Authorities say even the smallest piece of information could be useful. Anyone with information can call the Hopkins Police Department at 952-258-5321.
