Mpls. Washburn takes cautionary steps following 'non-credible' threat

Washburn High School in Minneapolis is on a modified lockdown Thursday following a "non-credible threat" directed at the school.

School officials brought in police to do a walk-through of the school Wednesday night and found no "unsafe materials," the district said in a post on Washburn's website. The message also went out to students and families in an automated phone call.

"In working with police, we determined that the threat to Washburn High School was not credible and that school would operate on a regular schedule today," the district said.

Washburn is on what school officials call a "code yellow lockdown." That means students remain in their rooms during class periods, outer doors are locked and visitors must display identification in order to enter the building.

It's the second threat this week directed at a Minneapolis high school.

Southwest High School was closed on Wednesday following a bomb threat. No "unsafe material" was found after a sweep of the building, and the school reopened Thursday.
