This week Art Hounds recommend Renegade Theater Company's "Hand to God," Contempo Physical Dance's "Balacobaco" and a quartet of abstract artists.

Writer Lucie Amundsen is thrilled to see that Renegade Theater Company is taking on the edgy, provocative comedy "Hand to God." Dark, violent and hilarious, "Hand to God" has been described as "Sesame Street meets The Exorcist." Amundsen says she loves theater that pushes boundaries, and this show does just that while also deftly exploring loss and loneliness. Performances run Feb. 23-March 11 in Duluth.

Dancer and artist Robert Borman will be at the Cowles Center in Minneapolis this weekend to check out Contempo Physical Dance's show "Balacobaco." Inspired by Brazil's Carnival, the performance is infused with high energy, fantastic rhythms and a celebratory mood. Performances are Feb. 24 and 25.

Artist and businessman Farzan Navab recommends paying a visit to the art gallery at 801 Lofts in Minneapolis for the opening of "Humanature," a show that features abstraction in numerous forms — photography, painting, drawing, assemblage and installation. The show opens Saturday, Feb. 25, and runs through June.
