Target is laying off 80 employees in its property management division and will leave another 40 positions in that group unfilled.

The Minneapolis-based retailer needs fewer people in property management, since it's completed major remodels of nearly 1,300 stores since 2008 and has slowed the pace of new store openings, spokeswoman Molly Snyder said.

Most of the affected employees are in the Twin Cities.

"As we open fewer general merchandise stores nationwide and focus more on smaller formats, we have made the decision to centralize our architecture, construction, engineering and facilities management teams to best meet the needs of the business going forward," Snyder said.
