Prescription medication take-back day is Saturday

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is hosting prescription medication take-back events across the state on Saturday. It hopes to collect more than 5,000 pounds of unused medication during the day's events.

DEA agents will be collecting only pills and other solid medications like patches. No needles or liquids are being accepted.

The National Prescription Drug Take-back Day events are being launched at a take-back in downtown Minneapolis that features speakers including the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy Director Michael Botticelli and representatives from other federal and local agencies.

The downtown Minneapolis drug take-back event will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the south plaza of the Hennepin County Government Center and will include a drive through drop-off location. At least 20 other sites in the state are also collecting unused medication on Saturday.
