Michael Gibino, a Bernie Sanders delegate from St. Paul, complted his month-long run from Minnesota to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia -- For the first time in a month, Michael Gibino isn’t running toward Philadephia.

Gibino, a Bernie Sanders delegate from St. Paul, completed his unconventional journey to the Democratic Convention Sunday night when he arrived at the Liberty Bell in downtown Philadelphia. He began the run in Minnesota on June 25 and logged about 40 miles a day.

“It feels great to be here at the convention, now moving all that energy that I spent though out the day and really doing what we can to move democracy forward,” Gibino said Monday after a morning delegate meeting.

A lot happened during the month that Gibino was on the road, including Sanders’ endorsement of former rival Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination. Gibino said fellow Sanders delegates helped keep him up to speed on political news during the run.

“It was kind of hard to track everything,” he said.

Gibino said his run was not just about spreading the Sanders message. He also raised money for Mile in My Shoes, a Twin Cities nonprofit organization that fights homelessness.
