Art Hounds: Cantus and Joe Sinness' 'Fey' drawings

St. Olaf Art professor Christopher Tradowsky says if you love detailed, life-like drawings, you should check out Joe Sinness' show "Fey" at Macalester College. Inspired by gay eroticism and camp sensibilities, Sinness' candy-colored drawings pop off the page, using puns and innuendo to depict everything from a Dolly Parton wig to guys cruising on Fire Island. The show, which is up in the Law Warschaw Gallery, runs through Oct. 21.
Schubert Club arts ambassador Kylie Schultz is a longtime fan of Cantus Vocal Ensemble. This weekend and next the nine-man chorus is performing a concert titled "The Four Loves." Inspired by the ancient Greeks, the program brings together music from around the world that explores agape (love of God), eros (sexual love), philia (love of friends and family), and storge (love for one's children). The concert will also feature world premieres of four new works by David Lang, Ysaye Barnwell, Roger Treece and Joseph Gregorio.
Photographer Sarah Filipi is heading to Red Wing this weekend to attend "Fly Without Wings: A Tribute to the Spirit of America's Wild Horses." This show of Deb Lee Carson's photographs takes place at the Flower Valley Vineyard and Winery, so folks can enjoy some wine as well as the fall colors while learning about the wild horses of Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
