Police activity, big backups on I-94, I-394

(Updated at 10:25 a.m.) Parts of Interstate 394 in Minneapolis were closed for much of the morning due to police activity. The closure snarled traffic on Interstate 94 and Interstate 35W as motorists sought alternate routes.

Officers from the Minneapolis police and fire departments and Minnesota State Patrol were on the scene shortly after 6 a.m. dealing with the unspecified incident that led to the closing of the interstate.

For a time, westbound Interstate 394 was closed at Dunwoody Boulevard. The eastbound portion of the interestate was reduced to two lanes,.

The incident was resolved with no injuries shortly before 10 a.m. on Friday, and Interstate 394 was reopened.

Minneapolis Police Department spokesperson John Elder said "it was an isolated incident that posed no threat to public safety."
