Man kills mother in Hudson, leads police on car chase and kills himself in Minnesota
A man fatally stabbed his mother in her home in Hudson, Wis. and then led police on a chase into Minnesota, which ended when he apparently shot and killed himself.
The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office initially responded to a call around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday for a violent domestic dispute. The sheriff says Logan T. Reese, 28, of Glenwood City, Wis. stabbed one family member and beat another with a stick.
Family members took shelter in a garage on the property, but Reese's mother, Charlene Wold, 49, stayed inside. After deputies entered the home, they found Wold had suffered "obvious stab wounds." She was pronounced dead in a waiting ambulance.
Authorities searched Wold's home for Reese, and determined he'd fled in a white Pontiac Grand Am.

About 45 minutes later, Reese's neighbors in Glenwood City called 911 to report a fire in the suspect's apartment.
An officer with the Woodville, Wis. Police Department then located and followed the suspect's Pontiac on U.S. Hwy 12, and waited for other law enforcement to arrive for backup. The suspect shot out of his vehicle in the direction of the Woodville officer, who then gave chase.
Authorities pursued Reese for more than 50 miles into Chisago County, Minn. During the chase, the suspect fired multiple times at officers before crashing into a median barrier on U.S. Hwy. 8 in Chisago County. Authorities say Reese continued to shoot at them after he crashed.
Reese was found dead in his vehicle shortly after 2 a.m. The St. Croix Sheriff's office says he died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
"Our hearts go out to the family in this case," St. Croix County Sheriff John Shilts said in a statement. "I would also like to thank the various agencies who assisted and continue to assist my office with this investigation."
The sheriff said he has no immediate plans to release any additional information about the case. The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation in Wisconsin, and the Chisago County Sheriff's Office is taking charge in Minnesota.
